Karen and Steve Blake founded the Autism Foundation of Tennessee to help families receive therapy and support needed at the lowest possible cost. Karen has a Master’s degree in Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology. She also worked 11 years In the public school systems in Atlanta before having a child with Autism.
After experiencing the intensive therapy and the cost associated with it, she realized the need for a non-profit organization to help raise money and to provide individualized programs and services for children with autism and related disorders in Tennessee. The AFT helps children of all ages and will be expanding soon to offer even more services.
The Autism Foundation of TN offers a full range of services for children and adolescents. Some of the targeted skills include: Behavior therapy, Communication, Self-help Skills, Academics, Socialization, Vocational skills, and Family and School Support. The AFT works collaboratively with school systems, and the military, and also provides trainings for firefighters, police officers and other organizations to ensure the best support for the treatment and services for autism.
